What is a lift autodialler?
The emergency telephone provides a way for a passenger to speak to the people responsible for arranging assistance. The alarm button and voice interface in the lift are part of the arrangement; other equipment may be installed elsewhere.
The telephone and its connection are different things. Some devices combine telephone and mobile functions. Others use a separate gateway or a fixed phone line. The engineer needs to identify the actual arrangement, including the service receiving the call.

Illustrative arrangement. Some equipment combines functions.

Does the existing phone need replacing?
A line migration alone does not establish that the telephone is unsuitable. The current unit may be able to remain with an appropriate connection. Reasons to consider replacement include an equipment fault, an unsuitable interface, lack of support for the intended arrangement or a wider agreed upgrade.
- Identify the installed make, model and variant from existing records.
- Check the connection, power supply and backup arrangements.
- Discuss speech, lift identification and any test-call functions with the receiving service.
- Compare the work needed to retain the phone with a justified replacement scope.
A compatible mobile gateway may change the connection while retaining the telephone. Read about gateway upgrades
If you are also dealing with faults elsewhere on the lift, see Forge Lifts’ fault-finding and repair service on the main company website.

Equipment options, selected for the site.
You choose the requirement: the number of systems and the communication points needed. Forge selects a suitable brand and model and identifies the proposed equipment in the quotation for your approval.
A 2, 3 or 4-point arrangement refers to the number of communication stations. Their locations — potentially the lift car, car top, pit or machine room — are confirmed for each installation. If the same site needs different configurations, put them into separate groups in the quote request.

A proposal should explain which passenger interfaces and other parts will be retained, which will be replaced and how the selected equipment will work with the connection and call receiver.
04
Think about the installed system.
EN 81-28 concerns remote alarms for passenger and goods passenger lifts. A manufacturer’s statement about a product does not certify an entire installed system. The applicable requirements and the circumstances of the lift need competent review.
Ask for a clear installation and test scope, including the relevant power-failure checks, call identification and handover information. Avoid judging suitability from a product label alone.
05
What helps with the first conversation?
Only your email is required to start the form. A site postcode, number of lifts and reason for the enquiry help us scope the next step. If available, add existing service records, the phone or gateway model and the name of the current call receiver.
Only use records or photographs you already have, or information from safe, accessible locations. Do not open electrical panels, enter restricted lift areas or change alarm programming to identify equipment.
Common questions
A little more clarity.
Can I start a quotation without knowing the model?
Yes, you can begin a quotation without knowing the model. Give the quantities and communication points if known, or ask for advice. Forge confirms suitable equipment and the installation scope before you order.
Does new equipment include alarm monitoring?
A monitoring or answering service is a separate arrangement unless explicitly included in the agreed scope. Confirm who receives calls and how assistance is arranged.
